A second–round pick is no Jair Jurgens but at least we're not stuck with Edgar any longer

• According to MLB Trade Rumors (written by Tim Dierkes) the Giants allegedly signed shortstop Edgar Renteria to a two-year, $18MM contract. Information will update with more details and confirmation as it becomes available.

• If the report is accurate, the Tigers tentatively get the Giants' second–round pick without worrying about whether to offer Renteria arbitration.

• Of course, Renteria, 33, hit .270 in 547 plate appearances for the Tigers. Defensively, he made nine fewer plays than the average shortstop.

• You have to wonder, will a move back to the senior circuit revitalize him?
